Byeolbangjin Fortress was designated as a Jeju Monument on April 3, 1973. The fortress is about 950 meters in circumference. The oval fortress was built in consideration of the location's topography having a higher terrain in the southern part and a lower terrain in the northern part. Of all the fortresses in Jeju, Byeolbangjin Fortress is in relatively good shape. The fortress is also an important example of how fortresses in Jeju were built and in what scale.

◎ Travel information discovering the charm of Hallyu -

Seungkwan appeared at a Joseon-era fortress together with a band made up of members sharing the surname ‘Bu.’ The Bu clan is one of the three founding family names of Jeju, along with the Go and Yang clans. Hado-ri in Gujwa-eup, Jeju, where Byeolbangjin Fortress is located, is known as a village of the Bu clan. It is also a meaningful place in Seungkwan’s hometown of Jeju.

Byeolbangjin Fortress is famous for its canola flowers, and the contrast between the black stone fortress walls and the bright yellow blossoms in early spring creates a charming landscape.
